This course is ideal for school management, teachers, special needs teachers, and all other non-teaching experts and staff working in school education, adult education, and vocational education and training (VET).
With a passion for technology education and the Maker culture, this course leader combines innovation and hands-on expertise. With a Master’s degree in Technology Education from Turku University, he conducted the first Finnish study on Maker culture in 2015. As the founder of Makerspaceman Ltd and Teijo Makerspace, he specializes in teacher training, makerspace design, and product development for technology education. Drawing on his experience as a technology and craft teacher, he now operates from Teijo Makerspace, a hub for creativity and collaboration, where he continues to connect technology with innovative ideas and people.

Day 1, Sunday
16:00 Meet at Helsinki Central Railway Station. Walking tour of city center sights to Juttutupa.
18:00 Joint dinner (self-funded) at Juttutupa Restaurant.
Day 2, Monday
09:00 Welcome, course introduction, and visit to Oodi Makerspace. Presentation on the Finnish educational system.
13:00–16:00 Choose one:
- Visit Aalto FabLab to explore technology education in Finnish universities.
- Visit Kulosaari Secondary School STEAMLab (tools and methods for STEAM education).
Commute to Salo by train and transfer to Teijo Ironworks Villages (organized taxi).
Day 3, Tuesday
09:00 Introduction to Teijo Makerspace, STEAM education in Finland, and team project kick-off.
13:00 Workshop on project planning, design and prototyping, and art in STEAM education.
Commute by public transportation to Mathildedal Village.
Day 4, Wednesday
09:00 Workshops on technology reading skills, digital modeling, and free software options.
13:00 Workflow for digital manufacturing, hands-on tools/materials with laser cutting/3D printing, and team project manufacturing.
Optional: Traditional Finnish sauna at Teijo Village (17:00–19:00).
Day 5, Thursday
09:00 Workshops on basic electronics, media arts, and wiring team projects.
13:00 Microcontrollers in STEAM projects (e.g., Micro:bit), coding for team projects.
Optional:
- Hiking in Teijo National Park (19:00–21:00).
- Guided fishing trip at Lake Mathilda (19:00–21:00).
Day 6, Friday
09:00 Team project work time.
13:00 Finalize and document team projects or visit Perniö Primary School Tech Shop.
18:00–21:00 Course-ending festival at Teijo National Park, including campfire dinner and project presentations.
Day 7, Saturday
08:30 Taxi to Salo Train Station.
11:00 AI in STEAM Education (presentation by Antti Luoto).
12:00 Final Q&A, course conclusions, and farewell.
